Improve the efficiency of car park exhaust fans
Save around 50 per cent of the energy used by exhaust fans in underground car parks by installing variable-speed drives.
Significant energy savings can be made by upgrading the exhaust fans in your underground car park to high efficiency or variable-speed drives.
High efficiency motors use less energy to run than a standard motor and if they run for long hours can deliver substantial savings. They cost 10-15 per cent more, but can deliver paybacks within a year.
Variable speed drives on fans allow air flow to be controlled by carbon monoxide sensors. This allows fans to run at a lower rate when not required, rather than a fixed rate at all times.
Ensure the variable-speed drive fans are controlled by carbon monoxide (CO) sensors in accordance with Australian Standards AS1668.2
The payback period is between 3 and 4 years.
