Improve your existing hot water system


Domestic hot water can account for more than half of the energy used by common property in apartment buildings that have a central hot water system installed.

Here are the things you can do

Hot water is often provided from a central hot water system that delivers heated water to each apartment in the building unit via pipework. Long pipes are often needed to deliver this hot water and a lot of heat can be lost as the water travels from the boiler to the apartment, especially if it is more than a couple of floors away.

About 30 per cent of the energy used to heat water in a storage system is wasted due to heat loss from the storage tank and pipes. The energy used to pump hot water around the building can also be significant area of potential savings.
