Example motions

Below are two different examples of motions that would be placed on the agenda for a vote at a meeting. 

These are to be viewed as a guide only.

Motions will vary depending on things like:

  • What kind of project you are undertaking
  • The way your apartment building runs
  • How owners will be voting on it
  • How many quotes you have collected (and attached to your business case)
  • How you recommend the project be funded

Hall Lighting Bulb Replacement — LEDrUS Quotation: 

That the body corporate accepts the attached quotation to engage LEDrUS to supply and install 60 halogen lamps with 10W LED lamps on levels 1 to 3 at a cost of $1800. This quotation as valid for 30 days and expires on the 22nd of June.

The work will take 1 day to complete.

This bulb replacement is expected to save $600 per year from electricity savings. 

The LED bulbs also last at least 30,000 hours (6 times longer than the existing halogen bulbs) which will save a further $1200 in avoided bulb replacements over the next 5 years and also save a significant amount of maintenance time.

The work is to be paid for from the $5000 available in the sinking fund for annual maintenance. 

Hall Lighting Bulb Replacement — Brite Lights Quotation: 

That the body corporate accepts the attached quotation by Brite Lights for supply only of 60 x 10W LED lamps at a cost of $1200, to be used to replace the 50W halogen lamps in the corridors on levels 1 to 3. This is a standard stock item that they can provide immediately. 

The lights will need to be installed by the body corporate maintenance contractor and this is expected to take 5 hours at a cost of $300. The total cost is of the project is $1,500.
